How does EMSculpt work?
Currently, EMSculpt is approved for use on the abdomen and buttocks, with programs for the thighs and arms under development. The goal of the treatment is to eliminate excess fat and develop firmer, more defined abs plus rounder glute muscles.
The machine uses non-invasive HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic) pulses to induce supramaximal contractions. These contractions are faster than is possible through voluntary movement such as sit-ups and crunches. Normally, muscles relax between contractions, but the high pulse rate of EMSculpt does not allow this relaxation phase to occur.
